I hate shipping, Keep in mind that I am not opposed to any romance forming in stories(ie. SatAM).But what gets to my nerves is that whenever any pair exists, someone on the internet just has to put the two in a romantic context. Why? Some reasons I hate shipping is:
Must-Love Mentality. Probably one of the most common impression I seem to be getting out of shippers is rewriting every character they ship as an heavy romantic version of the original counterpart. But what if the characters don't need that? There are many characters out there who don't have relationships with love and romance but do just fine! Good examples include Webby and Lena, and Sonic and Amy from the Sonic series.
Individual vs Couple. Oftentimes, shippers fail to appreciate a character as an individual because their only purpose is to become half of a pair. Personally, I think that'd be insulting to the character(ie.Sonic)
"Pair" = "Love Couple"? Don't make me laugh. There are way too many reasons why two individuals will be a pair: teamwork, efficiency, tracking, mere friendships, etc. For shippers, there's only one answer: LOVE. . It's like you can't work with another person without potentially being treated like someone's partner. . You know how much that bites?
What "feels right?" A common answer for why some ship characters is because,"It feels right!". It's overly vague. To say it like it is, most ships I've seen don't feel right because they're really one sided. One of the more common kinds of ships I've seen involves love triangles, or common pairs. Now, not every ship I've seen is like this, this is just one of the more common scenarios I've seen--but this is coming from someone who's seen this garbage enough as it is.
So those are some of my reasons. there are more, but these are some I have right now. If this ends up similar to anyone else's article by mistake, I deeply apologize, because these reasons are common with anti shippers.
