It needed to be done.
Would I rather what?
For the 2017 version I think there is a strong case for either with both having a vastly different appeal. For the 1987 version I think its a easier win for launchpad and if you count his darkwing incarnation for the comparison its a slam dunk, since at least in my option that was his best version. maybe its not fair to compare them like that, but then again the title only says "more funny" rather then specifying which version even though the chances are you are probable talking about DT17 since sadly not too many people seem to care as much for the originals even though it was great just in a very different ways.
I think the first modern design you are talking about is probable the simplification which makes for cheaper animation/rigging (wish these things got bigger animation budgets so we can have a near zero compromise animation in both art style and smoothness). Sort of find the egg shaped heads to be something I don't think I could get used to... then again I got used to the squircle shaped heads lol. Never was a big fan of the blue eyes though.
Sort of sad no comment on number 5 cause after revisiting this again I think it has one of the best compromises when it comes to making it easier to animate(I assume can elaborate if needed) while also looking close to the original. I'm sure the black shirts, hats, and hair styles could be modified withing the 2017 design to distinguish them while having a more nostalgic esthetic.
Could still be a decent candidate for a crossover between the 1987 and 2017 versions of the two shows since a mimic style would be needed for the original's universe. (this was the one thing I hopped for and still am hoping they get a green light for a special or movie and do a crossover theme [i'm probable the only one who want that though {background thought to text inception <ok i'll stop now>}])
Well I just found this and in the past I think he mentioned that he didn't do anything with the character because he either couldn't do the character justice within their limited time frame and opted to do nothing.
I think he is either saying the book that comes out in October(? i think) 2022 will address it or that he knows something else he can't share such as the idea he might be used in the Darkwing duck reboot. Nothing can be said for sure. This is pure speculation and nothing else. Just thought you might like an update on even something silly like that.
It needed to be done.
Well I tried googling, yahoo, duckduckgo and even dare I say binging it. The only thing they gave us was a announcement that said it is in the works years ago and on Nov 12, 2021 they teased us about it with two images for the rescue rangers movie teaser.
This one has "DARKW" blurred out in the background as a hint to the reboot.
This one below has a blurry "DWD Reboot Call" writing on the bottom of the yellow note the rest seems unreadable if you find out what the rest says or have a good guess feel free to share.
I would love to know more too. I don't think we even have a estimated year of release, but given this was hidden in the rescue ranger announcement I would bet they plan to announce more after that movie comes out so when it does keep an eye out for more information.
One little thing I forgot to mention is while the reboot animation I would argue is overall an upgrade its use of flash animation on certain parts was a little over abused. Which imo made it worse at those times. Guess in some ways that is more of a higher highs with some lower lows. Part of balancing the budget I guess which is understandable. Which in some ways a similar thing could be said about the original's animation as well, but for different reasons of course.
Just thought that was an important note since I don't exactly want to excuse the laziness of some parts and put the whole thing on a pedestal just cause it had some extra buttery smooth scenes as well.
I could probable write a 10 page essay talking about the tip of the iceberg differences (all I'm qualified to talk about since I'm no expert just an enthusiast ) in animation/style and the ups and downs to each. Both had their own advantages! There is a lot to it after all! Its not a one dimensional topic in the slightest. 2d animation is underappreciated imo.
With that being said if we ever do get bonus content or a special of some sort in the future I expect peak animation throughout the whole thing. Get that rise of tmnt team on it! One can only hope that is... lol
I'm actually very fond of the designs in the old maybe cause I tend to find those older looking shows visually appealing. Maybe its just nostalgia; however, I do feel that on average the shading and depth to a character were more flushed out in the original. The animation was a little more static in some way and I would argue the new show had better animation itself not to say I think the original was badly animated not by a long shot. I just tend to be a bigger fan of smooth animation over higher detailed characters.
I think we can all agree original Webby was annoying even the triplets treated her as such. Sort of wish we got more nods to the triplets being able to sync though like they did in the original. I think the new takes on them being unique is great and I wouldn't change that if I could, but felt they over sold it and abandon the idea they can be similar at times too. Which given they are triplets who were basically raised together all their lives I would consider that to be just as significant as their differences. Maybe that is just me though.
Couldn't agree more that they did an great job with the reboot though as I do prefer it over the original. Really wish we got a full crossover episode though(not just 2 seconds). Lots of fun could have been had with that idea.
I will say you do have a point about that third one if it looked like that I don't think anyone would complain.
The top two are the main ones my comment was about. The ones below it are all sort of different in style with the last one being really close to the original with more of the comic style. I think those ones would have all been fine choices that could have done good depending on how well it translates into animation as I know these things can get very costly to make look smooth which the simplistic art style we got very much let some scenes looks as smooth as a hot knife through butter.
I get what you mean though by the final pick was generic as I can't disagree with you thankfully for me at least it kind of grew on me and am now more worried about how well it is animated which its simplicity I would assume helped a lot. wonder how hard it would have been to make things look more lite up since 9/10 times characters seem to be void of shadows lol.
I think this video is a prime example of what I mean by smooth animation(note playing with the speed of the video can really demo just how well the animation is): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7RKMlsWl7Y
I do feel those top two are a little cursed though with the others being much better not sure about the forth one though.
Kind of interesting. I'm glad we got what we got instead of this though. This looks mostly like it would have been a cheaper version of the original art style which I know many people complained about them changing it and this one you probable couldn't argue it had its advantages over the original. With the one we got I think it allowed for some buttery smooth animation and overall looks good to me even though it clearly has less detail than the original while this looks like the original but with less detail. Might have been perfect for a back to the past cross over episode if they ever did that where the new reboot characters somehow end up in the original series world. Was really hoping to see the old and new clash since they are so different yet one is heavily based on the other.
I'm sure this conversation has already been had a few times as I have seen little side note on other pages about people saying they like one over the other. but...
I think there is a lot to be said about them the original had a very different style of humor and the role of the triplets was to be identical which had its moments of humor even though its the number one thing people seem to point out about the new one improving. Which I don't really disagree with since I love the way they interact with their new characteristics. One thing I still am not 100% of is which my favorite triplet is in the original I can say for sure it depends on which color I prefer atm lol for the new one I seem to go back and forth here maybe a bias for Louie (atm might change my mind tomorrow lol). Which is impressive given they are all very unique and still manage to make me unsure.
The original had its own comedy that I thought was very good even though I can't really say for sure what it was maybe it was the simplicity of it. It may have lacked consistent continuity, but I guess that can let the writers be more creative sometimes. One character I definitely prefer in the original was Fenton I like his new role in the reboot since it made a lot of sense, but like his character more in the original for some reason not sure what it was just thought he was funnier somehow. Sort of sad he showed up later in the show rather than sooner though. The original is worth a shot for those who haven't seen it. It is completely different so don't expect more of what the reboot was.
The new show brought us both comedy and a heart wrenching story with great continuity making us feel more connected. The introduction of Della was an emotional roller coaster. In some way I was worried her character would suck or feel hollow since the original never had her and I couldn't imagine what kind of character she would be. She is now my favorite and the thing that devastates me about not getting more of her is I feel they wanted to do way more with her, but lost that chance when the show was canceled forcing them to rapidly attempt to tie up as many loose ends as they could losing something along the way. Can't blame the writers for that one though they did an excellent job under the circumstances and in general. Even if it does make me feel we were robbed of something that could have been even more amazing.
What are your thoughts?
I mean he might as well be their dad. He is basically Piccolo an epic character who somehow keeps ending up taking care of other peoples kids.
