A Series of Unfortunate Substitutions! is a DuckTales 2017 comic book story.
Synopsis[]
Scrooge takes the family to see Launchpad trying out for a spot in the elite Blue Mallards flight team. While Donald is working his latest job and Louie is trying to make a profit off of Launchpad's participation, Launchpad ends up crashing and destroying Donald's ice cream truck. Launchpad's crash is revealed to have been caused by him practicing the actions for his flight routine in front of a mirror, and he is left unable to fly for two weeks. Dewey eagerly proposes that Launchpad teach him to fly while he's laid up, but Donald adamantly refuses to allow it.
Forced to find a new job, Donald buys a cologne called Desperation that's supposed to help him, while also blocking Dewey's attempts to see Launchpad about learning to fly. After learning that he's visiting Launchpad from Mrs. Beakley, Donald storms in on them but finds nothing amiss, unaware that Launchpad has been using fruit as stand-ins for plane controls. Upon learning that Scrooge is flying with Donald to an unicycle plant in Calisota, Launchpad attempts to intervene only to learn that Scrooge has hired Barron Rojo of the Blue Mallards to fill in for him. Dewey joins his uncles aboard the flight, much to Donald's displeasure, but Scrooge allows him to remain aboard.
During the course of the flight, Rojo breathes in Donald's new cologne and is knocked out. As the Sunchaser plummets, Dewey takes the controls, and manages to crash the plane with no one suffering any serious harm. Donald, though angry at Dewey's defiance, is nevertheless glad he was able to take action to save their lives. As an unexpected bonus, Donald sees a prospective job with the owner of a fruit stand destroyed by Dewey's landing.
