Outside DuckTales[]

Prior to Disney, Young worked as a comedic actor in shows like The Alan Young Show, where he became the first actor to win an Emmy Award for best actor in a comedy, and Mister Ed where played a man who talks to the titular horse.

Young's first time performing the voice of Scrooge was in the 1975 LP album An Adaptation of Dickens' Christmas Carol, Performed by The Walt Disney Players, which he co-wrote alongside Alan Dinehart. He reprised the role for the album's 1983 animated adaptation, Mickey's Christmas Carol, before DuckTales was aired on TV. Although Scrooge's next appearances, A Magic Kingdom Yuletide Special and Sport Goofy in Soccermania, featured Jack Wagner and Will Ryan respectively taking the reins, DuckTales solidified Young as the official voice of Scrooge. After DuckTales, he continued to voice Scrooge in numerous productions, ending in 2016 (the year of his death) with the Mickey Mouse shorts (in which Scrooge is now voiced by John Kassir).
