Beware of the Phenomenal Pumpkin People!

Beware of the Phenomenal Pumpkin People! is a DuckTales 2017 comic book story, and the last of four prequel stories focusing on the adventures of Donald, Scrooge and Della prior to the triplets' birth.

Synopsis[]

Flying home from their latest adventure aboard the Sunchaser, Della and Scrooge admire their latest acquisitions: several oddly colored pumpkins. A furious Donald happens to be trapped in one of the gourds, leading into a flashback as to how this came about. Earlier, the Sunchaser crash-landed in the Amazon Jungle, and Donald set out to find water while Della worked on repairing the plane. Going to look for him, Della and Scrooge stumble upon a village made out of the multicolored pumpkins, and inhabited by tiny, panda-like natives.

To their astonishment, they find that the Pumpkin People have made Donald their king, and he seems quite content to remain with them despite Scrooge's attempts to convince him otherwise. Scrooge soon learns that the villagers actually made Donald their king so he could protect them from monsters; he informs Donald of this but his nephew is unconcerned. However, the monsters prove formidable indeed, though while fighting them Della inadvertently force feeds it a pumpkin and causes it to transform into another creature entirely. After learning that the monsters eat only purple pumpkins, which have also been eaten by the dwindling population of Pumpkin People, the Ducks realize that the monsters must be transformed Pumpking People.

Dressing Donald up in a purple pumpkin the Ducks lure the creatures into a trap in order to feed them different pumpkins in hopes of finding an antidote. They are eventually successful, and depart after collecting several of the pumpkins and getting the Pumpkin People to promise not to eat the purple ones in the future. Though the people express interest in having Donald stay as their king, Della-with no help from Scrooge-convinces Donald to come home with them. Back home, Donald is forced to drink iced tea made from the antidote pumpkins as a precaution against turning into a monster.
