Bombie is a creature that was cursed to hunt down and destroy the richest person in the world. He was voiced by Fred Tatasciore in the DuckTales reboot.

History[]

Years before the events of "Woo-oo!", he chased a rich bird named Mr. Zee until Scrooge claimed the title of Richest Duck in the World. The curse would be carried over and would follow Scrooge for years until he trapped the monster in a money bin on Falcon Island surrounding it with a magical defense so it could not escape.

Years later, Scrooge's nephew, Llewellyn "Louie" Duck enacted a con to save his family, defeat several villains, and take the fortunes of all of them, along with Scrooge's. However, instead of returning it to Scrooge, Louie kept all the money, which made him the Richest Duck in the World and unknowingly passed the curse onto himself. Soon after, Louie learned from the Board of Directors that a large amount of the company's money was being spent on magical defense for Falcon Island and gave them the order to cut it, which freed Bombie from its prison. Louie went to Falcon Island to investigate an emergency that he caused, and there, he met Bombie. Louie escapes the monster, but it follows him back to Duckburg. Louie runs into Scrooge, and the two of them hide from Bombie. After learning what the monster and the curse is from Scrooge, that he must earn the one thing he has not, Louie realizes that it is humility. Louie offers to clean Bombie's shoes and the monster accepts. While Louie and Scrooge clean Bombie's shoes together, Louie gives Scrooge back his fortune, and Scrooge earns humility as well, thus breaking the curse. With clean shoes and the curse broken, Bombie leaves for parts unknown.

Behind the Scenes[]

Bombie, mostly called Bombie the Zombie, was originally created by Carl Barks for the 1949 comic story "Donald Duck in Voodoo Hoodoo". This version of the character, unlike its DuckTales counterpart, targets Scrooge personally, rather than anyone who happened to be the world's richest person.

Bombie is similar in appearance and personality to the DC Comics villain Solomon Grundy.

In the Carl Barks comics, Bombie was called Bombie the Zombie, an African bewitched by the witch doctor Foola Zoola to become his zombified slave. This gave granted Bombie immortality, super strength, near invulnerability, and removed his need to eat. He is conscience in his zombified state but is unable to control his own body. Foola Zoola sent Bombie with a poisoned voodoo doll to go after a young Scrooge, after searching for him for seventy years, he found Donald giving him the doll, however as the poison is designed to only work on Scrooge, it does nothing to him. Now confused and crying Donald' and his nephews decide to take him back home to Africa, eventually Donald uses Bombie to take down Foola Zoola; with nothing left to do, they decide to leave Bombie to wander the earth.
The 2017 Bombie is almost unrecognizable from his comic book counterpart, whereas, in the comics, he looks like a large, but normal-sized African tribesman with curly white hair, long ears, with an earring and wearing only a long tattered white shirt, the 2017 one most resembles an ogre. Another key difference is the complete removal of his African origins and of the villainous Foola Zoola, the man behind his predicament. The comic book version also has no relationship with who is or isn't the richest duck in the world, all he wants to do is fulfill his mission, that being to poison Scrooge.
