Burt was a ditchdigger living in Scotland in the 1870s in the DuckTales reboot. When the young Scrooge McDuck worked as a shoe-shiner but had no clients, his father Fergus McDuck gave Burt an American dime to pay Scrooge for shining his shoes. The dime inspired Scrooge to travel to the USA and work hard to become the richest duck in the world.
