Disney MovieToons

Disney MovieToons was the animation stuido that produced "DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp".

The studio was an offshot from Disney Television Animation, and had been established in April 1990, mere four months prior to the release of the DuckTales movie. Its initial task was to mainly produce films based on Disney Afternoon shows and other television cartoons.

However – following the disappointing performance of the DuckTales movie, the studio went through some changes, with the MovieToons name being downplayed, and its new focus being direct-to-video sequels to Walt Disney Picture's main animated feautures. During the following years it produced films like "The Return of Jafar", "Aladdin and the King of Thieves", "Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin", "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas", "Belle's Magical World", "Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World", and "The Lion King II: Simba's Pride".

While most projects connected to The Disney Afternoon was shelved, one survived and had its theatrical release in 1995; "A Goofy Movie", based of "Goof Troop".

In 2003, the studio was renamed Disneytoon Studio, and continued to produce movies until it closed in 2018.
