Drosera occidendum is a fictional species of Drosera appearing as an individual specimen in the DuckTales 2017 episode "The Town Where Everyone Was Nice!" In the episode, it is a giant flower and the main tourist attraction of a town in the Brazilian rainforest. Once a year, the town throws the Festa da Flor ("Feast of the Flower" in Portuguese) to celebrate the flower's annual bloom.
However, the reality is much darker: the flower is actually a carnivorous plant, the townspeople are just facsimiles of people created by the flower's many vines, and the "feast of the flower" refers to the real people the flower will eat.
History[]
In the episode "The Town Where Everyone Was Nice!", this Brazilian town is visited by Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Webby and Donald, and they are soon joined by José Carioca and Panchito Pistoles, Donald's former bandmates as part of The Three Caballeros, all attending the Festa da Flor.
When the flower's carnivorous nature is revealed, it tries to eat all the people who have visited, but the flower dies from exposure to Donald's abrasive singing voice during an impromptu performance of The Three Caballeros.
After the group leaves in the Sunchaser, a seed from one of the dead vines falls off into the soil and quickly germinates a new young flower.
Inscription[]
An inscription in Portuguese of the flower's legend is inscribed nearby:
| “ | Há muito tempo, uma força invasora causou um massacre sangrento que deixou a cidade vazia. Da destruição, cresceu uma única flor, provando que independentemente la terrivel tragédia, da sempre encontrará a forma de crescer de ovo. Agora, a cidade celebra esse triunfo todos os anos. | ” |
Webby tries to translate it.
| “ | Long ago, an invading force led a bloody massacre that left the town empty. From the wreckage, a single flower grew, proving that no matter how terrible a tragedy, life will always find a way to bloom anew. Now, the town celebrates this triumph every year. | ” |
But she admits her Portuguese is a little "enferrado" (she probably meant "enferrujado"). She does not immediately recognize the inscription as a serious warning.
