–Flintheart Glomgold, whenever he's defeated. |
Flintheart Glomgold (real name Duke Baloney) is one of the main antagonists of Disney's DuckTales reboot franchise. He serves as one of the main recurring antagonists of the 2017 reboot TV series DuckTales by being a major antagonist in Season 1, the secondary antagonist of Season 2 and a major antagonist in Season 3.
He is one of the three most personal archenemies of Scrooge McDuck (alongside Magica De Spell and Ma Beagle).
Description[]
He was created by Disney Legend Carl Barks, and made his first appearance in Barks' 1956 comic The Second-Richest Duck Uncle Scrooge #15). Flintheart will attempt any possible underhanded deed in order to defeat Scrooge. He is a South African White Duck and the archenemy of Scrooge McDuck, usually portrayed as an ambitious, ruthless, and manipulative businessman who shares many of the same qualities as Scrooge—the drive for massive wealth, and the cunning and creativity to obtain the same—but he lacks any of Scrooge's tendencies towards generosity and compassion. In Don Rosa's The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck he is said to be a Boer.

Personality[]

–Flintheart Glomgold |
Abilities[]
- Skilled hand-to-hand combatant: Flintheart is an expert hand-to-hand combatant, although nowhere near Scrooge's level. Due to this, as well as his overall lack of forethought and coordination, he usually hires goons to do his dirty work.
- Genius-level intellect: Flintheart is also quite an accomplished businessman, being smart enough to start his own company, which rivals that of Scrooge McDuck in fortune and acquisitions. This is at odds with his outwardly oblivious nature to common sense, often deluding himself into nonsensical conclusions after a single thought. It was later shown that Glomgold's company was in fact in constant financial ruin due to his general incompetence, and only flourished under Owlson's leadership.
- Pick-Pocketing: As revealed in The Ballad of Duke Baloney!, Flintheart was able to steal Scrooge's golden money clip when he was a child. Scrooge was unaware of this until Flintheart revealed it to him later on in the same episode.
Physical Appearance[]
This incarnation of Glomgold is much shorter and rather hefty in weight compared to his previous appearances. He wears a green Scottish kilt, with a white shirt, brown vest, and a navy blue jacket. He also sports a fake grey beard to look older, when in actuality he is half-Scrooge's age.
Relationships[]
Zan Owlson[]
Owlson is Glomgold's former business associate, who tries to get him to use his company for the benefit of the world and not outlandish schemes, but all of her attempts to convince him continuously fail due to Glomgold's rambunctious attitude and penchant for evil schemes. Unfortunately by the time of "The Richest Duck in the World!" Owlson decides to quit and resume with her own companies after having been fed up with both Louie and Glomgold's disastrous company schemes, leaving their relationship on a negative note.
Gibbous[]
He is Glomgold’s current business associate, who helps him for his schemes ever since They Put a Moonlander on the Earth! and is a major ally to Glomgold.
Rivals[]
Scrooge McDuck []
Glomgold hates Scrooge with every fiber in body and obsessively tries to defeat and kill him every chance he gets. Having first met when he was a child and Scrooge was in his prime, the then-Duke Balony was working as a shoeshine boy (much like Scrooge had been in his own youth) and shined Scrooge's spats, leading the millionare to pay him with a Dime in an effort to teach him self-reliance as he had. Unfortunately, the boy's already warped sense of pride and desire for wealth lead to this having the exact opposite effect, leading Duke Baloney to swear revenge against Scrooge by outdoing him in everything, thus reinventing himself as Flintheart Glomgold. The two have been bitter rivals since then, although Scrooge very rarely takes Glomgold's plans or threats with any level of seriousness.
Mark Beaks[]
Meeting in The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks! Mark introduces himself as the newest rich person in Duckburg. And much like Scrooge, Glomgold hates his cockiness and wish to get rid of him, to be free from his annoying personality.
Magica De Spell[]
Glomgold has a tenuous relationship with Magica due to the fact that they lay claim over the title of Scrooge's arch enemy, and they typically don't get along. In GlomTales!, Glomgold was reluctant to recruit Magica, because of her reputation of coming even closer to killing Scrooge than he ever did. When Glomgold attempted to double-cross her and the other villains, it only earned her scorn, leading her to consider him a failure.

Trivia[]
- Glomgold creating a phony identity is a reference to the 1987 series changing the character's origins from South African to Scottish, supposedly to avoid references to the nature of Glomgold's wealth connecting back to the politically sensitive apartheid situation in South Africa at the time of broadcast.
- In this continuity, Glomgold began his fortune after having stolen Scrooge's money clip after meeting him as a child, as opposed to his past history in diamond mining. It is unknown how Glomgold further developed his fortune past this, as his various ventures are shown to consistently result in horrible failure either due to poor planning or being concocted solely as a move against Scrooge.
- During his brief period as Duke Baloney after becoming an amnesiac, Glomgold successfully grew a genuine black beard the same size and length as the fake gray beards he typically wore, although this was lost after being struck by lightning.
