McMama is a minor DuckTales 1987 character, appearing in the episode "Once Upon a Dime".

History

"McMama" is is the affectionate name given by Scrooge McDuck to his mother, who appears in flashbacks. McMama is seen living in a simple cabin, Cottage McDuck, together with her husband and young son.

Scrooge and Huey, Dewey, and Louie visit Cottage McDuck in "The Curse of Castle McDuck", in which Scrooge mentions that his parents were "poor, simple farmers".

Behind the scenes

• "Once Upon a Dime", originally realeased in 1987, only refers to Scrooge's mother as "McPapa". Five years later, comics creator Don Rosa established "Downy" as the name of Scrooge's mom, for his "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck", while also giving her the maiden name O'Drake. The DuckTales 2017 version of the character is also named Downy.
