The Moon Stage Theme is a piece of music from the DuckTales NES video game, composed by Hiroshige Tonomura. It is the background music for the fifth stage of the game, which is set on the Moon. The “Moon Theme” background music has enjoyed a cult-like status in recent years.
In the game's remake, DuckTales: Remastered, the song is, like all of the music from the original game, redone in an orchestral arrangement. A different, slower arrangement of the song is also heard over the remake's end credits. Both of these rearrangements were composed by Jake Kaufman. The remastered version of the song can be listened to here.
This song is by far the most notable track of all the DuckTales video game tracks, sometimes even being considered among the most beloved tunes in video game history, such as by ScrewAttack!. This is particularly impressive for a track from a licensed game, a category of which it is quite possibly the most famous.
The popular track has a lyrical rendition in the 2017 DuckTales series as a lullaby sung by Della Duck. An instrumental remix is heard throughout the season 2 episode What Ever Happend to Della Duck?! in the background music and in Della's humming. This version is also heard in the DisneyNOW game, Disney All-Star Racers on the moon stage. Another remix of the song was also used during the space battle with Lunaris in the season 2 finale Moonvasion!.
Trivia[]
- While recording dialogue for "Who Is Gizmoduck?!" voice actor Lin-Manuel Miranda improvised Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera humming the Moon Stage Theme as he prepares for work. A crushed Frank Angones was forced to explain to Miranda that he was not allowed to hum the song due to their other in-canon plans for it.
