Season 4 of DuckTales 1987 aired from September 10, 1990 to November 28, 1990 and includes 7 episodes, two of which formed a 2-part special series finale.

Production[]

The seven episodes that make out DuckTales' fourth and final season are in fact two bodies of work – three episodes that remained unaired from the production of season three, and four episodes that was ordered to conclude the series' 100 episodes run. The second season's producer and supervising director Bob Hathcock, assistant producer Liza-Ann Warren and co-producers David Wiemers & Ken Koonce remained credited for the former three episodes, which were written by Weimers, Koonce, series newcomer Rich Fogel and veteran Doug Hutchinson, and include the final episodes directed by series veterans James T. Walker and Terence Harrison, and the sole effort by the director duo Jeff Hall and Rich Trueblood.

The final four episodes produced for the series (production numbers 402-405) had Alan Zaslove, one of the show's four original directors, as producer and supervising director, and Maia Mattise as assistant producer. All four episodes were directed by Rick Leon and written by Jeffrey Scott, who cooperated with Wiemers, Koontz and Alan Burnett for the two part series finale, "The Golden Goose".

Wang Film Productions in Taiwan did the animation for the episodes, with Mike Reyna serving as overseas animation supervisor for the episodes that had been held back from season 3, while Bob Baxter filled in for the final four episodes.

Broadcasting[]

The fourth DuckTales season was the first to premiere on The Disney Afternoon, a daily two-hour programming block that aired in syndication 1990–1997. DuckTales was one of four shows that made up the block during TDA's initial year, and it was aired on the second slot, at 3:30 PM, after Adventures of the Gummi Bears and before Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers and TaleSpin.

Although TDA aired daily, Monday to Friday, the seven season four episodes of DuckTales aired alongside reruns from previous seasons.

Glittering Goldie and Vacation Van Honk return for one final episode each, despite having been absent for season 2 (Van Honk's appearance is however a mere non-speaking cameo), and Dijon (Richard Libertini), from "DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp" which was released in cinemas during the break between season 3 and season 4, is introduced in the series, appearing in three of the final season's episodes. Donald made no more appearances or cameos in this final season.
