The Risk McDuck Refused! is a DuckTales 2017 comic book story.

Synopsis[]

Scrooge is enjoying a movie with Donald, Webby, and the boys, detailing their latest underwater adventure. However, Scrooge inwardly laments that his great age is catching up with him, and absents himself from the party. Struck by inspiration, he travels to Rip Van Wrinkle's lab, which is now managed by Dr. Hubblescope following Scrooge's unfortunate previous visit. There, he prepares to enter the Days of Yore Door, a machine that will enable him to travel back in time and live out a new life as a younger version of himself.

Fitted with a T.E.T.H.E.R. to ensure that he can return to the present if he so desires, Scrooge passes through the door and finds himself in a cold frontier. Quickly determining that there's gold to be mined in the area, he just as quickly runs afoul of some other fortune hunters who seek to eliminate him as competition. While evading them, he encounters one Donna Duckerty, an adventurous young lady whom he works with to escape the hostile prospectors. Though the two quickly bond, Donna's comments about Scrooge settling down and starting a family prompts him to depart for the future. He then confesses to Hubblescope his fear that, had he remained in the past, he might be left without the family he currently enjoys.

Trivia[]

When Dr. Hubblescope starts reciting lines from the DuckTales Theme, Scrooge reprimands him, not wanting to pay royalty fees. This is an acknowledgement of the fact that the song was written by Mark Mueller, who receives royalties for its performance and new versions.
